Water wheels have been used by humans to create power since the Middle Ages. This 2ft diameter replica allows children to interact with this simple but effective device on their own.
With our Water Wheel, children are encouraged to discover the power of water. What may at first seem like magic becomes tangable, as the current pushes against the paddles of the wheel and pushes it around and around. What happes when water is poured on the Water Wheel in the same direction as the current is turning it? How about the opposite direction?
This Water Wheel is designed to be used in streems and small creeks that are fairly shallow (a maximum depth of six inches is recommended) in at least a few places. The spikes under the base are designed to be thrust into the creek bed in order to anchor the Water Wheel. Rocks placed in the bowl shaped base will allow for further stability as the added weight keeps the Water Wheel from being swept away from the current.
Physical Principles
This toy is based on the physics of fluid dynamics. As the creek water flows under the Water Wheel, the force of the flowing water against the blades of the wheel pushes them in a circular motion and so spins the wheel.

This product in and of itself poses little danger to children. The only possible danger is small fingers being stuck in the spokes of the Water Wheel as it is turning, especially if the creek is fast moving and strong, thereby making resistance to the inerita of the wheel difficult. A greater danger is presented by the very nature of playing in natural bodies of water, and for this reason adult supervision is recommended.
