GyroFilms

- This is a curious toy, meant for those who are a little older and more capable. On the top is a pump-piston that when pumped forces the inner gyroscope to spin and keep the top spinning on its small pedestal. The tricky part comes once the gyroscope is spinning. Once in rotation the images inside the toy will start to blur and create moving images. The younger would have the joy of swapping out different strips and watching different animations. Whereas the older would have the joy of creating their own from blank strips and watching their drawings come to life.
- The main concept behind this design is the film strip. Using light to trick the eye to see a moving picture from several static ones as the gyroscope spins. In the background, this toy also holds two other concepts. The first is the principle of procession, the foundation of gyroscopes. The second is the trick of using a linear movement to generate rotation of a disc.
- This toy would be constructed of hard and durable plactic for the outer shell and plunger. The film would be a simple paper cutout. The spinning mechanism would involve a few springs and steel axels to securely hold the gyroscope in place. Since this toy is meant to come apart to switch out the film strips, everything would be compartmentalized into the two halves and contained such that there would be no small parts for children to swallow.
