Collapsible Trebuchet

Trebuchet design

Product Description

The Collapsible Trebuchet brings a whole new game to the outdoors. Unlike the giant medieval war machines, this trebuchet is collapsible and comes in a carrying case equipped with a strap for comfort and can go anywhere. The objective is to hit a target a good distance away using different weight and size configurations (thanks to the telescoping legs and arm).

Use

To use the Collapsible Trebuchet, simply remove contents from carrying case. Unfold the six legs (two tripods on either end) into a stable configuration. Next place the sliding track on the ground and make sure it is secure with the stakes (this will hold the throwing arm down). Attach the payload sling and fill the carrying case with some water and place on the throwing arm. Once the trebuchet is set up, pull the arm down and lock in place with the release pin and place the game ball into the sling. Stand back and pull the pin and the ball will go flying. The game accompanying the Collapsible Trebuchet is point based with a target and is somewhat like curling or shuffleboard. Due to safety reasons the ball must be fairly light and this will limit the range, but twenty feet or so is enough to amaze a child (older than ten).

Mechanics and Construction

The Collapsible Trebuchet uses the design from medieval war machines that would hurl huge rocks, basically the falling weight rotates the arm at a high velocity allowing the sling to open and release the payload. The Collapsible Trebuchet will be constructed of a lightweight metal that can withstand the stresses. The carrying case will be made out of a durable plastic as will the target, and the payload sling will be constructed out of cloth. THe cost will depend mostly on the cost of the metal and will be more expensive than many other toys.

Safety

The Collapsible Trebuchet can be a safety issue, therefore only older children (10+) should be allowed to use the device. Although it may not be that big the arm will still move very quickly. While operating the trebuchet everyone should be a good distance away and to the side of the trebuchet to prevent any collisions with the projectile. While the trebuchet is design to throw a small light weight ball (much like a tennis ball), this will not limit the use of small rocks and other object that may cause harm if thrown.
