Garfield's Six Pack Holder

and perfect cube practice

Project Description Site

What I learnt: I really liked my design. At the beginning I decided that I wanted to make it all out of one piece of cardboard so that I could eliminate connections (I personally consider them aesthetically unpleasant). I also eliminated the minimalistic approach of one layer of cardboard with holes in it. I knew my design would use more cardboard but it would also endure more uses. I thought about stress concentrations and removed material accordingly. The construction of my holder was also done well, instead of simply folding the cardboard I cut material away making the fold much neater. I thought the perfect cube practice was a waste of time, although for some people I think they needed it. I also disliked how the designers got to "supervise" us. One is a communications designer who probably doesn't cut anything, while the other admitted that the never use cardboard. You don't have to be a design major to have common sense when it comes to actual construction. Despite this minor aspect I was really pleased with my final product.
