Design & Build

Project Description Site

What I learnt: We designed our structure the class after doing the personality test so that was very fresh in my mind. There were two extroverts in the group, myself and one other. I tried to get the quietest member of the group to become involved. Which when she did was very good. The other extrovert, although vocal, was probably the least useful. The most important lesson from this was that it is important to hear everyone's input because that is precisely why your in a group, but to also take into account is that if someone talks more it doesn't mean they know more. Not being able to test our structure due to material constraints was probably our biggest obstacle. We came up with a design which theoretically could work, but we were not able to learn from our mistakes. An essential part of any design project is prototyping and proving that the ideas will actually work. It is impossible to design something on paper and know that it will work, if someone could do this they would be rich because it would eliminate any trial and error. You can only hope to minimize the testing portion of the project through sound engineering and design approaches. When we had to build the structure it became apparent that other group did not test their design. They made many assumptions that were incorrect. Also, the directions were less that clear. The lack and diagrams and sketches made them really hard to follow.

Second Time Around: We learnt from our mistakes, but still had problems communicating our design to the next group. This was mainly due to the time constraint.
