Size and shape limitations
The size of the milling machine's table is 19.5" x 6.25" and can support 100 lbs. The size of the part is also limited by how far the milling axes go, the X axis can travel 12", Y axis travels 6" and the Z axis travels 9". The rotation and feeding speed must vary according to the material used, which will shorten or lengthen the manufacturing time. When designing the part one must also consider spaces which clamps can hold on to such that the milling process can be carried out on a stable platform. The specifications of the Benchman VMC 4000 can be found here.
during the milling process we also ran into obstacles such as the lack of milling bits desired, as well as the designated bit not being long enough. These limitations were bypassed with some creative NC programming.
