Exercises

Garfield

Purpose:

To construct a product made completely out of cardboard, that will hold 6 soda cans.

What I learned:

I learned about the different ways materials can fail. For instance, cardboard fatigues easily. I learned to make the edges on my pieces curved with no sharp turns, so that the pieces would be stronger.

My thoughts:

When I looked at everyone else's design in comparison to mine, I realized that I had paid most of my attention to the functional aspect of design rather than the asthetic aspect of design. In my mind and in my education I am definately lacking something. I wish to endeavor more into the realm of the artistic so I can broaden my potential.

Role Mole

Purpose:

To constuct a product that will enable Role Mole to keep track of his glasses

What I learned:

I should try to includeall possible parts of the problem in your solution - for example role mole's hair, his bow tie ect.

Almost never take your first idea - stay open to other ideas

My thoughts:

The best ideas jumped out at you. With the amount of time we were given it should have been clear when it was time to begin the build. When you found an idea that made you jump out of your chair and say Ahah I've got it! I began building my design when I found one that would work. I ended up being very unhappy with my design and could not present it to the best of my ability because it was merely adequate.

Green Acres

Purpose

To construct a environmentally friendly egg carrier

What I learned

I see this project as the completion of a journey. I was dissapointed with my other projects, but with this one I was most pleased. I though I did my best presentation yet since this was my best work.
