Sound Effects Handout: Students, Take-Home

Now you will be using what you learned in class to make your own sound effect.  You want to find a sound effect that makes a wave that will look like this one:

Ø      Make a sound that will trick people into thinking it is the same as this one.

Ø      The sound you make will not look exactly like this.

Ø      Remember, a tall wave is loud, and a short wave is quiet.

o       That is called amplitude.

Ø      A long wave sounds low and deep, but a narrow wave sounds high and squeaky.

o       That is called pitch.

Ø      The sound you make should be have about the same amplitude and pitch as the sound wave.

Ø      Get a parent to help you find things in your house you can use.

o       Hollow cans or boxes filled with smaller stuff

o       Bags or paper that you can wave or shake

o       Objects made of different stuff you can rub together

o       Anything else you can think of!
