All students in 39-245 must register for the Meeting of the Minds

The Undergraduate Research Symposium is a university-wide open to all Carnegie Mellon undergraduates conducting research and creative projects. The "Meeting of the Minds" provides an opportunity for students to share their projects with the campus community through oral, poster and artistic presentations. You can talk about your project, compete in a poster competition, display your art, give a live performance, or show your work in the video and electronic media room. All students are encouraged to apply!

The fifth annual Undergraduate Research Symposium will be held Wednesday, May 10, 2000 (the reading day during finals). Concurrent sessions will run from 12 - 5 pm followed by an awards ceremony.

**Online registration deadline is April 7, 2000.**

Please complete an on-line registration form. There are no paper forms for this year's Symposium. You must register by April 7, 2000 to participate in the Undergraduate Research Symposium.

The on-line form will ask you to provide some information on yourself and your project. You will also need to provide an abstract. This should be a brief description of your project (no more than 250 words) including your research methods and results. Abstracts will be posted on this web site--please let us know if you would prefer that we did not post yours.

Your abstract should be one, well-written paragraph stating the main points of your project proposal, that is:
  1. What is the engineering principle that the children will learn?
  2. What is the activity?
  3. What age group is the activity designed for?
  4. What will the children do and how will they learn by doing your activity?
Each group must send me a copy of your abstract by Thursday 5pm at the latest. Since it is short, send it as plain text in a mail message.

Please be sure to complete ALL information requested on the form. All of the 39-245 projects will be in the same room.

Answers to questions on the forms:

After you have registered, you will receive a packet by mail with additional information to help you prepare for your presentation, a name tag and a t-shirt. If you have any questions, please call the Undergraduate Research Initiative at 268-5702.

A special note to groups: group presentations are welcomed and encouraged in all presentation types. Simply indicate that it is a group submission on the application form and submit a separate form for each student. Only one abstract is needed.

The Undergraduate Research Symposium is coordinated by the Undergraduate Research Initiative and funded by the Office of the Provost. For more information, please call 268-5702 or email stocks@andrew.cmu.edu
