Activity
This activity will involve the assembly of several parts to make a
toy cork gun. Each child will make his/her own gun.
Method
There are two parts to the activity: building the gun
and playing with it.
Assembling: The children will be given explicit instructions
on how to assemble the gun. It will begin as six separate pieces.
Using: After assembling the toy, the children will be able to
see the engineering principle by using the gun. It can be fired many times
because the cork is reusable.
Engineering Principle
This device demonstrates the principle of pressure. It uses an increase
in pressure in a tube to launch a cork.
Age Group
Ideally, this would be a project for a third grade child, who is approximately
eight to nine years old.
Materials and Supplies
The toy is made from six separate pieces. Only glue is necessary to
assemble it(See diagram).
Meeting Requirements
After considering several ideas, this one was chosen becuase it best
satisfies all the requirements.
