Looping Ladder

Looping Ladder

3d Ladder

What is it? How is it used?

The Looping Ladder is a variation on an old toy that had a wooden block “climbing” down rungs on a ladder. This toy has changed the design so that the toy alternates the direction in which it falls. The child begins by placing the block above the first rung. The rung then is allowed to slide into a slot on the block. Since the center of the blocks gravity is above this point, the block rotates 180°, when the block is again allowed to fall as the block slides past the first rung and onto the second. This pattern continues until the block reaches the bottom of the ladder.

Physical Principles:

This toy demonstrates the simple physical principle of center of gravity. For younger children, it also demonstrates the way in which interlocking objects can move with respect with one another.

Cost:

The Looping Ladder is made entirely out of wood, which will keep the toy very affordable.

Safety:

The toy is kept together securely with glues, and all of the independent pieces are too large to present a choking hazard. There is some safety concern if the child throws either the ladder or the block, but rounded edges mitigate any potential injuries.
