Building a Slow Roller
Materials :
Can, rubber band, foam core, two popsicle sticks, cardboard, various friction
surfaces, tape, glue.
Build procedure :
1. Remove the ends of the can so that it becomes a hollow cylinder.
2. Cut the foam core in to a circle with a tapered edge that is roughly the
circumference of the can. The foam core circle should fit snuggly in to the
end of the can without actually going in to the can. Do this twice.
3. Punch a hole in to center of foam core.
4. Cut the rubber band so that you now have a string of rubber
5. Cut two cardboard circles with a 1.5inch diameter. Punch holes in the center
of circles.
6. Thread rubber band through the hole of one cardboard and foam core circle.
Tie the end of the rubber band to the popsicle stick. Device should now look
like Fig. 1.
7. With the other end of the rubber band, thread it through the last two circles
and tie/tape to another popsicle stick, while keeping the tension moderate.
8. Device should now be finished. It should look like Fig. 2
9. To make friction pads, cut out twelve pieces foam core to shape of template
#3.
10. Cut out two pieces of a certain friction surface to template #3
11. Glue the pieces together to create friction pad.
12. See Fig. 3
