The principle behind Crystal Tetris is a simple one: arrange the eight pieces in such a way that they will make a five by five square. While this may seem quite simple for any teenager or adult, it would provide a challenge for a young child. Crystal Tetris would be most helpful in the realm of understanding shapes, interactions between them, and how putting them together would create other shapes, a valuable skill for a child to learn. However, this eight piece puzzle may seem challenging to a youngster, it would not prove too difficult for many children past a young age range. Therefore, this game is for children, strictly between the ages of five and eight.

Using this toy is as easy as it looks; simply take the pieces and place then next to each other in different places and orientations. To complete the puzzle, one must use all the pieces to construct a five by five square without any gaps in between.

The concept of Crystal Tetris comes straight from it's name. Tetris is an age old game which takes L-shaped, square, rectangular, zig-zag, and T-shaped pieces, which the player must use to make gap free lines as fast as they can without making mistakes. Crystal Tetris takes the basic concept of regular Tetris, but makes it easy enough for a young child to explore shape making.

Crystal Tetris is a very simple game to create. All that is necessary are five different shaped molds for the pieces and the material to create them. Even though making the pieces out of glass would make this game extremely attractive, that would only be feasible for a older audience; for a child's protection and preventing shattering of the pieces, some translucent form of plastic would be the best material to use. This way, making the pieces would be very simple and cost effective, and there would be control over the sizing of the pieces. Also for a child's safety, the pieces should be made large enough such that swallowing them would not be an issue.
