RE: AVTS modem upload BS 4.3.11

Let's get something straight. Hardware and TCP/IP have nothing to do with
eachother.

TCP/IP can and does run on top of a number of different hardware topologies.
Ethernet is certainly one (most commonly found on LANs), WiFi is another
(802.11b), serial is yet another (i.e. modems and central count).

Ping is an application which works on top of the TCP/IP protocol. Once you
have established the hardware connection (i.e. plugged in all the cables, or
made the phone call) and then established the TCP/IP protocol (i.e. RAS)
then ping will work. By working I mean you can ping all the members of your
network.

i understand the concept - but thru the direct lan - I can type ping
xxx.xxx.x.x but if it is a modem I am pinging who dials who - or does it go
out across the phone line? is that clearer - I just cannot conceptualize the
pinging across modem lines.
