RE: North Carolina Export

Luckily, our North Carolina customers are not locked into a specific GEMS release (Robert Pickett would know more about this than I).  I agree with you, Larry, and would like to see export formats as a “peripheral” item (like .abo files or GEMSReports versions) that could be used with different GEMS releases.

As I see more and more of these export requirements from different states, I must ask a fundamental question.  Is it possible to have the export of data fall outside of a specific GEMS release.  In the past we have shot ourselves in the foot by attaching a specified export to a release level that is not certified in the state.  This has caused many problems in the past.  Now is the time to address this and rectify this if possible.

Subject: North Carolina Export

North Carolina has put in place a statewide voter registration/results reporting system and they are requiring the counties to export election night results to it.  At present, the North Carolina GEMS users must edit the Standard Export which is available in GEMS.  For their convenience, I would like to request the creation of a “North Carolina Export”.  The parameters for the export are as follows:

Enter one set of quotation marks ( “ ) in the Field Delimiter field.

Make sure the Quote Strings checkbox is Unchecked (i.e. blank).

Of the checkboxes in the Export Results For area, only “Individual Precincts” should be checked.  The “Election Summary” box should be unchecked.

The field titled Reporting should read “All Races”.

On the lower left, in the Row area, only the Candidate box and Write-Ins box should be checked.  All of the other boxes in this area should be unchecked.

On the lower right, in the Column area, only the following boxes should be checked:

County ID

Precinct ID

Precinct Label

Race ID

Race Label

Candidate ID

Candidate Label

Count

All other boxes in the Column area must be unchecked.

The North Carolina GEMS users must have the ability to edit the export so that they can enter a state-issued number (specific to each county) in the County field.

I assume that if/when this is created, it will be added to a 1.17 GEMS release.  The North Carolina counties are using a variety of GEMS releases, so they will all need to be upgraded to whatever release contains the North Carolina Export.  When project manager assignments are made for the North Carolina accounts, that person (or persons) will need to coordinate with the North Carolina accounts to do the upgrades.
