RE: Alternate for printing of "Front" and "Back" text on bottom of ballot

I would like to get a copy of the legal requirements.  I would assume there is a document that the Secretary of State can provide.

Subject: Alternate for printing of "Front" and "Back" text on bottom of ballot

RCR:    Selection to print "BF" and "BB" in place of "Front" and "Back"
text respectively on the bottom of the ballot.
Requested:    May 11, 2000
Required:      July 1, 2000 - Prior to ballot generation for 9/12 election
Jurisdictions:  All Minnesota accounts

I was informed at a Minnesota user group meeting on Tuesday, May 9, that legal requirements concerning ballot layout now state that there can be no "language" identifying and therefore differentiating the front from the back of the ballot.  GEMS currently prints the text "FRONT" and "BACK" on the bottom of the ballot which is apparently unacceptable.  They would like to see the option to print the text "BF" in place of "FRONT" and "BB" in place of "BACK".
