RE: Landscape Ballots

This is an oldie but a goodie (note the date).  Landscape is actually part of a larger project required for NY:  "full face ballots".

In addition to landscape, I propose the following GEMS changes:

• Race flag to extend the candidate horizontal lines to the edge of the candidate box.
• Race flag to draw vertical lines between candidate columns.
• Race flag to draw these horizontal and vertical candidate lines as a full grid within the race.  In other words, draw the lines even if there is not a candidate at the row and column of the race.
• New race values "min candidate cols" and "min candidate rows" to replace the current "Candidate Cols".
• New race layout options "by col" and "by row".  Currently GEMS always lays out candidates by column by row.  The new option will allow laying them out by row by column.
• New race layout options "fixed cols" and "fixed rows".  The option will allow fixing a voter group to a given candidate row or column, insead than wrapping left to right or top to bottom.
• New candidate column value for vgroup.

I am working on these now.  If you have any other suggestions or comments on how full face could be integrated into GEMS, or problems with the above design, please follow up.  Also, follow up with any additional related requirements LHS might have.

 

As a nice side effect, these new layout options should also work well in Puerto Rico.
