Some of my recent work, May 2002-November 2002

Concurrent Object Segmentation and Recognition with Graph Partitioning

S. Yu and R. Gross and J. Shi

to appear in Neural Information Processing Systems, NIPS02

This is our work towards achieve body detection and segmentation in one step.  As a side result, we are able to label the body parts as we computes its segmentation from the background.

Summarizing Human Activity in Video

H. Zhong and J. Shi

Submitted to IEEE Conf. Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, CVPR 03

It describes our Human Activity Inference (HAI) work on detecting and summarizing interesting human activities in video.  This system requires only a rough detection and tracking of the body and object. It takes advantage of the large video database itself in defining typical activity patterns, and finding which of them are more interesting or unusual.

Inferring Human Upper Body Motion

J. Gao and J. Shi

Submitted to IEEE Conf. Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, CVPR 03

It describes our work in automatically detecting and tracking upper body motion in video.  The key feature of this system is that one does not require hand initialization of the body configuration in the first frame.  Detection and tracking are carried out on each image frame using motion information.

Silhouette-based Human Identification from Body Shape and Gait

Robert Collins, Ralph Gross, Jianbo Shi

5th International Conference on Automatic Face and Gesture Recognition, May 2002
