Dieses Jahr haben Christin und ich die Gelegenheit genutzt und sind mit dem Auto in den Süden gefahren. Passiert haben wir dabei: Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia und Florida. Wirklich halt gemacht haben wir aber nur in Virginia, South Carolina und Florida.

This year Christin and I used the opportunity to jump in the car and drive south. On our way down, we passed: Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. However, we only stopped for more than in Virginia, Sotuh Carolina, and Florida.

Auf der Hinfahrt haben wir in der Nähe von Charlotte, NC übernachtet. Am nächsten Tag wollten wir dann aber doch direkt weiter und so haben wir von der Stadt nichts gesehen. Dafür hatten wir Zeit uns in Charleston, SC umzuschauen. Dort hatten wir ein schickes Hotel etwas westlich der Stadt. Von dort sind wir an den Folly Beach, zur Magnolia Plantation und nach Downtown gefahren.

On our way south, we stopped for the night near Charlotte, NC. The next day, we weren't too keen to visit the city and thus headed further south. This way, we had some day the same day to head to the Folly Beach near Charleston, SC. Over the course of the next few days, we visited the Magnolio Plantation and, of course, the beautiful city center of Charleston, SC.

Die Plantage wahr beeindruckend schön anzuschauen. Viele Tiere in freier Natur und sehr viele schöne Pflanzen. Besonders interessant fanden wir natürlich die Alligatoren. Das wahr ein interessant Erlebnis so nah an sie herran zu kommen; ohne Zaun. Aber auch andere Tiere haben wir gesehen: Schildkröten, Schlangen, Eidechsen, verschiedene Vögel und natürlich die obligatorischen Eichhörnchen. Von den Alligatoren hab ich ein Video gemacht.

The plantation was really gorgeous. A lot of animals and beautiful plants. What impressed us the most where having alligators right next to us without any fences. But alligators where but far not the only animals we encountered: Turtles, snakes, lizards, several different kinds of birds and of course squirrels. There is a video of the alligators below.

Und natürlich haben wir auch fotografiert.

In addition, we took quite a number of pictures.

Etwas über die Historie der USA haben wir auch gelernt. So wurde in Charleston, SC Reis produziert und exportiert. Dies hat Charleston zu der reichsten Stadt des Landes gemacht. Das sieht man auch, wenn man sich in Downtown umschaut. Die Stadt ist überfüllt mit großen Stadtvillen in ganz unterschiedlichen Stilen, aber stets protzig.

Interstingly, we learnt a bit more about the US history. Charleston, SC seems to be famous for its rice production and at somepoint was the richest city in the US. One can still make out this rich history when looking at all the large buildings in downtown.
