POSTED TO CMU.MISC.NEWS by Bruce B. Gerson:

The following message is from Computing Services.

Apple Computer will release the next major version of Mac OS X, 10.4 or Tiger, the evening of Friday, April 29th. Visit the Apple web site at http://www.apple.com/macosx/ for details about the 10.4 (Tiger) release.

Computing Services attempts to keep pace with the major updates for our supported operating systems. In this case, we expect to provide Help Center support for 10.4 (Tiger) within a few weeks of its official release. We will use the intervening time to complete testing of the MyAndrew software collection and update our documentation.

For Computing Services' student computing clusters, we will be evaluating the 10.4 upgrade for the Fall 2005 semester. Over the summer, we hope to deploy the update to a limited number of cluster computers as a pilot.

The Computer Store will carry shrink-wrapped copies of 10.4 (Tiger) at an educational discount beginning Monday, May 2nd. Note that this is in advance of when the Help Center will support it.

Please direct any questions or comments to your departmental administrator or to the Computing Services Help Center at x8-HELP or advisor@andrew.cmu.edu.
