Fairness
Defined in context of Generalized Processor Sharing (GPS)
- each session is assigned a share
- service is instantaneously distributed in proportion to their shares
- excess service unused by a session also distributed proportion to sessions’ shares
Important property: memoryless, non-punishment
- a session not punished for extra service it received in the past
- important for hierarchical link-sharing
- encourages adaptation and statistical multiplexing
