Hi all: The 2020 JP Morgan AI Research PhD Fellowship program has been announced. Current general areas of interest include AI, machine learning, data privacy and cryptography, and ethics in computing. See below for full details about expectations/requirements. SCS can nominate *two* students in their 3rd/4th year. I will coordinate the process. An SCS-level committee will choose from among the nominations we receive. At most one nomination per advisor, please. Advisors should send me nominations, as a *single* PDF file with three sections: (1) cv, (2) 2-page research summary (including potential impact on financial services. Includes paragraph indicating student's potential interest/motivation in summer internship at J.P. Morgan and preferred areas of research focus for the internship). 2 pages includes bibs. (3) 2 reference letters, one from the student's PhD advisor. (Eventually selected nominees will have to submit a budget too, but that can wait for later.) I am afraid that other file formats, or multiple PDF files, will not be considered. Sending in a generic research summary (or a generic letter about the student's strengths) is far less effective than if you can tie in the research to what they are looking for, and to the people there (if possible). They will evaluate applications based on overall excellence of thesis work, and its potential relevance to JP Morgan's objectives. The deadline for SCS nominations is *Monday* November 11, 2019, 5pm. Please use the following link to upload the PDF file (uses cmu.box.com account), instead of email. --Anupam --------- Forwarded message --------- From: JP Morgan PhD Fellowships Date: Mon, Sep 23, 2019 at 9:01 PM Subject: Invitation to Nominate - J.P.
