Self-evolving Hardware Gregory J. Barlow and Marc A. Edwards A complete approach to self-contained evolvable hardware, called self-evolving hardware, is presented. Self-evolving hardware implements the entire evolutionary process and reconfigurable area inside a single FPGA. Unlike previous hardware implementations, self-evolving hardware is capable of evolving both logic and connectivity at run-time. Self-evolving hardware increases the speed, flexibility, and scalability of the evolutionary process, facilitating the implementation of complex circuits.
