A Walk in the Clouds
Q & A with the Flumphs
Silvana's question
- Silvana:
- "Where are Rakni's 'legs' located, especially the ones on our
Prime?"
- Spokesflumph:
- "There are four access points that you refer to as 'gates.' The
first is located in a grove of webs, at the base of the foothills on
the southern part of your continent. The second is located on a small
isle, in the bay, not far from a city known as Silverton. The third
is located in the Scorpion Swamps. The fourth is located in a barren
region known as the Deadlands. The other locations are as yet
indeterminate. Three of the four places are far from mortal
civilization. The Scorpion Swamps are infested with several evil
arachnids; among them is a primitive tribe of intelligent scorpions
who have recently become allied with Rakni."
The Deadlands are a region south of Lifeblood that
separate the Eastern Empire from the (former) Western one. The area
is under a curse, and people who venture in die of fatal diseases
within a few days. There is supposedly a city inside; according to
the ki-rin, the Shade Lord explored the area extensively.
The foothills mentioned for the first gate might be in the
mountains around the Auramkil area.
Stealth's question (technically)
- Silvana:
- "We saw one of her avatars, one that appeared to warp space around
it. What is the best way to defeat such a creature?"
- Thorongil:
- "Arrows of Rakni avatar slaying."
- Spokesflumph:
- "The creature which you refer to is known to the flumphs as an
Incarnation of the Void. There are other names for it. Such
manifestations are resistant to standard attack forms. The best way
for mortals to affect an Incarnation of the Void is through the use of
dimensional magics. We suggest the use of a spell known as
Mordenkainen's Sword. Other, riskier attacks that work on a similar
principle use rifts or Spheres of Anhillation."
- Thorongil:
- "How about prismatics?"
- Spokesflumph:
- "The Incarnation of the Void is not easily affected by material
objects, including most magical weapons. Prismatics are unreliable."
- Ganeth:
- "Based on the spell description, force blades might have a chance
of working."
- Spokesflumph:
- "Blades of force and walls of force are not totally ineffectual."
- Silvana:
- "What happens if you touch the creature or it bites you?"
- Spokesflumph:
- "Physical contact with a Void Incarnation is almost certainly
fatal."
When Plant Dude was asked this question, he just said,
"Holes." In other news, Argon has used prismatics to control rifts in
the past, and Tylerion is able to cast Mordenkainen's Sword as his
daily evoc.
Ganeth's question
- Ganeth:
- "Which factions (particularly among the devils) are involved in
this power struggle, and how is it likely to spill over onto our Prime
(particularly the coming war)?"
- Spokesflumph:
- "The situation with the devils is rather complicated. There are
three major factions, enumerated as follows: The first faction is
associated with forces of Cold, and has relatively few followers among
mortals. The second faction has a large following among humans who
worship the power of Death. The third faction was thought to be
followers of a Fire God, but has now been revealed to be a faction of
Illusion."
- Ganeth:
- "The big A?"
- Spokesflumph:
- "Correct. The struggle is only valid on the Prime and associated
planes, and many of the major players are mortal. All three factions
are embroiled in the upcoming war on your continent. It appears that
they hold different views on the war and its implications. It has
long been known that the Illusion Faction is using this war to
undermine the power of the more established Faction of Death.
However, what was not generally known was that the Fire Faction was
only a front for the Illusion Faction."
- Ganeth:
- "Is Kharnzeel working for the illusion faction?"
- Spokesflumph:
- "We feel it is unwise to prematurely make assertions regarding the
Faction of Illusion, but tentatively speaking, the answer may be yes."
Incidentally, word is that Nitya, the Wind Temple paladin
stationed in the Icelands, has had encounters with gelugons, fitting
with increased activity from a faction of cold-wielding devils. The
gelugons are sponsoring the ice liches down there.
Frankel's questions
- Frankel:
- "If I wanted to help the war with the East come to a fair and less
bloody end, what actions would you suggest I take that are feasible
and effective?"
- Spokesflumph:
- "The Forces of Evil will not suffer casualties in the coming war
since their troops are often already dead. The best solution is a
swift one. There are three main targets that we would recommend:
- Undermine the corrupt merchants who sponsor the Evil forces.
- The elite horse-archer troops of Afzeel.
- The mercenary necromancer Sarkanist and his owlbear constructs."
Thorongil's question
- Thorongil:
- "In mortal terms, what is Khambeer?"
- Spokesflumph:
- "Khambeer is why Good triumphs over Evil."
- Gita:
- "For mortals, Khambeer is a pleasant opportunity to gain xp and
risk your soul on saves with a -10 penalty. Also a chance to become
more firmly indebted to your extraplanar sponsor when they have to
bring you back from the dead in a new body."
Beeel's question
- Beeel:
- "Well, I guess I'll ask about my old Master Ixthreel. Someday I
would like to return and defeat him. But some claim that he is a
demon, which would mean that I can't kill him. So: Exactly what form
of life is he?"
- Spokesflumph:
- "'Master Ixthreel' as you know him is a confabulation of two
entities. One, a mortal warrior, the second, a Spirit. They live in
an evil symbiosis. To defeat them, you must learn to wield your Soul
like a Weapon. We will find you a trainer when the time is right.
Seek us and you will be helped. For the moment, seek to better
yourself. You are not yet ready."
