VII. The present and future

You should know that both the forest avatar and the whilg are of the opinion that I'm going to kill Rakni (an evil spidery extraplanar from Acheron -- I've been encountering various aspects of spiderness since my first adventuring days) at some point in the future. The whilg also think that I'm not going to survive the experience and should set aside a piece of myself so that something will survive -- this sounds a lot like what happened with you and the balor. I've started to think that the whilg try for prophecies of the self-fulfulling variety, so I'm being stubborn and assuming that killing Rakni isn't intrisically fatal. Anyway, there is some evidence that the whilg have plans involving you as well as me; other extraplanars may be involved as well, and our joining may be affected by this. Nobody has much of a clue about what the third spirit could be. As it happens, you woke up when the barriers between us faded out during the shadowing (a time when this world is blocked off from the outer planes; priestly magic stops working, most extraplanars are forced to leave the plane, and no energy -- such as the energy powering the barrier -- can flow between here and there), and since there were no extraplanar influences on us at the time, whatever could have been triggered by your awakening apparently wasn't. How things progress now that the extraplanars are coming back is an open question; I'm hoping that the ki-rin will have some insights for us.

I think the long haul pretty much depends on your abilities. If your spirit recovers to the point where you can maintain a fully independent existence, that's probably best; there might then be some way to put you into a new body. But since your spirit was pretty badly damaged, we may be tied together indefinitely. If we find that our goals and personalities are generally in agreement, we might even manage to share this body without going insane. :) And depending on what your capabilities are, we might be able to work out some way of passing control back and forth...sort of a situational time-sharing setup. But for now I think we should get to know each other, exchange as much information as we can, and see what the end of the shadowing brings.
