BEIRUT, May 26 (AFP) - Lebanon denied Tel Aviv press reports Wednesday that it had held contacts with Israel over a possible pullback of the Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army militia from the Jezzine district of southern Lebanon. "There are no direct or indirect contacts between Lebanon and Israel over a pullback from Jezzine. The information published by the newspaper Haaretz is groundless," a Lebanese government official told AFP. Haaretz reported Wednesday that Israel and Lebanon have held indirect talks on an SLA withdrawal from Jezzine as a practice run for a full Israeli pullout from Lebanon. The talks, which a defence source said had gone into "high gear," involve pulling the SLA out of Jezzine, a Christian town the pro-Israeli militia holds north of the Israeli-occupied border strip.
