LARNACA, Cyprus, May 25 (AFP) - Cypriot police launched a manhunt Tuesday following the brutal murder of a 71-year-old Belgian woman found stabbed to death in her home here. Police said the body of Ethel Althea Downing was found in her flat in this south coast resort town with multiple stab wounds. State pathologist Sophocles Sophocleous said that the woman's injuries suggested she had been beaten before being killed and added that her body had lain undiscovered for at least 48 hours. Police said they had issued an arrest warrant for a Pontic Greek of Russian nationality called Odhysseas Aphouxenides. They said he was a prime suspect in the killing as a trail of blood led from the murdered woman's home to his flat across the hallway. Downing, a Belgian national, had lived on the eastern Mediterranean tourist island for 25 years and appeared to have been killed in a robbery, police said.
