TOKYO, May 26 (AFP) - Japan's Premier Keizo Obuchi sent a letter to Chinese President Jiang Zemin thanking him for a pair of rare crested ibises and their offspring, the foreign mininstry said Wednesday. In the letter sent to Jiang Tuesday, Obuchi said he was "very glad to tell you that one chick was born without any trouble," the ministry said in a statement. "There is now no-one in Japan who does not know about this one chick," Obuchi said in the letter. The chick was born last Friday from two ibises given by China following a promise by Jiang during his visit here last November. Ibises were declared extinct in the wild in Japan in 1981.
