LAHORE, Pakistan, May 25 (AFP) - The wife and daughter of the Turkish ambassador to Pakistan were killed Tuesday in a car crash on a motorway near here, officials said. Ambassador Bozkurt Aran's wife, Senay Aran was killed instantly and a daughter, Irum, died later from head injuries at the Jinnah Hospital in Lahore, they said. Doctors said the ambassador, who was injured in the crash, had regained consciousness after undergoing surgery and his condition was "stable." A second daughter, Zainab, who suffered head injuries was out of danger. The accident happened as the family was travelling from Islamabad to Lahore, police added. Police said the accident happened when the tie-rod of the ambassador's Land Cruiser broke, near Gujranwala, 65 kilometers (40 miles) from Lahore. The vehicle overturned after hitting roadside railings and his wife died on the spot. Pakistan President Mohammad Rafiq Tarar and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in messages to Turkish President Suleman Demirel and Premier Bulent Ecevit expressed shock and grief over the accident. Pakistani Foreign Minister Sartaj Aziz and Foreign secretary Shamshad Ahmed also spoke to their Turkish counterparts by telephone, officials said. Punjab province's governor Shahid Hamid, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and senior government officials visited the hospital to express their condolences. Officials said the bodies would be flown to Turkey by a special Pakistan government plane on Wednesday. -=-=-
