NEW DELHI, May 26 (AFP) - India on Wednesday accused Pakistan of firing a missile at an Indian military plane over Kashmir two days ago. "An Indian air force Canberra survey aircraft was attacked by a Surface-to-Air missile (SAM) fired by Pakistan over Kashmir," said Air Commodore Subhash Bhojwani. "The SAM did not hit the plane," the official, in charge of Indian air strikes on cross-border Moslem militants in Kashmir's Kargil sector, told a news conference. The official said the SAM attack was unjustified as India had given advance notice to Pakistan of its flight-path and also because it was a non combat aircraft. The defence ministry earlier Wednesday in a statement had refered to the attack but without giving details. "Earlier an Indian Air Force aircraft within its own airspace was attacked inspite of prior notice to Pakistan authorities as per an agreement to avoid violation of airspace," the ministry statement said. The alleged Pakistani missile attack was followed by sustained airstrikes conducted on Wednesday by India to dislodge several hundred Moslem guerrillas from the Kargil mountains of Kashmir. India's dying fleet of British-built Canberras were used to bomb Pakistani targets in the last war with the country in 1971. The acquisition of latest warjets by the Indian air force has put them to other use such as training and surveys. -=-=-
