BOSTON (Ticker) -- As one member of the Toronto Blue Jays came off the disabled list tonight, another may be headed there soon. Designated hitter Dave Hollins, who was placed on the 15-day DL on April 18 with a fractured left hand, was activated today and went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in tonight's 5-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox. Normally a switch-hitter, the 32-year-old Hollins batted exclusively from the right side. He is hitting .213 with one RBI in 11 games. But the Blue Jays are now without the services of shortstop Alex Gonzalez for an indefinite period. The 26-year-old Gonzalez, who is enjoying a fast start with a .292 batting average, two home runs and 12 RBI, underwent an MRI on his right shoulder tonight at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Although the MRI did not reveal any specific damage, Blue Jays manager Jim Fregosi admitted there was reason for concern. "We don't know how serious it is, we don't know exactly what it is, but there was a hot spot on the MRI," said Fregosi. "He is going to get examined further in the near future by Dr. (James) Andrews." Gonzalez, a lifetime .236 hitter, apparently suffered the injury throwing last week. He appeared in 158 games last season and hit .239 with 13 homers and 51 RBI and established career highs with 136 hits, 70 runs and 21 stolen bases. "I guess we'll know in a little while how bad it is," said Gonzalez. "I can tell you I'm a little worried and frustrated. It doesn't feel right. My shoulder hasn't felt right in about a week. I actually feel quite a bit of discomfort." Homer Bush started at shortstop tonight and was 0-for-3. The Blue Jays have been making constant changes to their roster the past two days. In addition to activating Hollins, the team announced that third baseman Willie Greene cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse. On Thursday, the Blue Jays optioned infielder-outfielder Kevin Witt to Syracuse and purchased the contract of outfielder Patrick Lennon, who struck out as a pinch-hitter for the final out tonight.
