SAN DIEGO (Ticker) -- The San Diego Padres today placed first baseman Wally Joyner on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday, with a chip fracture of his clavicle. Joyner was mired in a 4-for-28 slump in his last 10 games and did not play in Wednesday's come-from-behind 7-6 victory over St. Louis. An MRI today revealed the fracture. "Hopefully, we eliminated old age," joked Joyner. "It's disappointing that the diagnosis was this, but it's good to know that I can come back. I still have the mental aspect that I can produce. It's been a deep ache over the last few weeks. My left side just shut down." Joyner is hitting .221 with one homer and 11 RBI. The 14-year veteran is in his fourth season with the Padres and came into the campaign with a .282 career batting average. John Vander Wal and Dave Magadan are expected to fill in at first base. The Padres will announce a reciprocal roster move on Friday.
