DENVER (Ticker) -- The Colorado Rockies today placed infielder Kurt Abbott on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin and designated righthander David Wainhouse for assignment. The Rockies also purchased the contracts of infielders J.R. Phillips and Chris Petersen from Triple-A Colorado Springs of the Pacific Coast League and moved righthander Kevin Ritz to the 60-day DL. Abbott suffered the injury in the first inning of Saturday's 8-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is batting just .179 in 18 games this year with a homer and four RBI, but collected a season-high three hits on Thursday. Wainhouse posted a 7.56 ERA in seven games out of the bullpen for the Rockies without earning a decision. He allowed seven runs and 12 hits over 12 1/3 innings with six walks and three strikes. Phillips was enjoying a solid season at Colorado Springs, batting .307 with 14 homers and 24 RBI in 42 games for the SkySox. He ranks second in the PCL in homers behind New Orleans' Daryle Ward, who has 15. Petersen was hitting .260 with a homer and 10 RBI in 35 games at Colorado Springs. Ritz has been on the disabled list since the start of the season with a right shoulder injury.
