SPORTSTICKER AL PREVIEW (DETROIT-CLEVELAND) CLEVELAND (Ticker) -- The Detroit Tigers send Justin Thompson to the mound today as they go for a surprising three-game sweep of the Cleveland Indians, who are looking to avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season. Rookie Jeff Weaver beat the Indians for the second time in a week on Saturday, allowing one run and six hits over six innings in Detroit's 6-2 victory. The game featured a bench-clearing brawl as Cleveland's Manny Ramirez charged the mound after getting hit by Weaver in the sixth inning. The Tigers have won three straight over the Indians and lead the season series, 3-2. Cleveland took two of three last week in Detroit. Thompson (4-5, 4.96 ERA) is trying to snap a three-game slide and climb back to .500. He is coming off a 7-5 loss at Toronto on Tuesday, surrendering five runs -- four earned -- and six hits over four innings. Thompson has yielded 13 earned runs and 17 hits over 14 1/3 innings during his losing streak. He has a decision in all nine starts this season, starting 0-2 before reeling off four straight victories. Righthander Bartolo Colon (6-1, 5.72 ERA) gets the start for the Indians, who have dropped consecutive games for only the second time this season. Cleveland lost two straight in Boston on April 24-25. Colon is coming off a wild 13-9 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Monday. He earned the win after allowing a season-high nine runs and nine hits over 5 2/3 innings. Colon has won his last three starts, despite yielding 17 runs and 22 hits over 17 2/3 innings. The Indians have scored a combined 32 runs in those three contests.
