ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Chicago Cubs removed one player from their crowded disabled list today by activating reserve outfielder Glenallen Hill. Hill was off to a fast start before being placed on the 15-day DL May 8 with a strained right hamstring. He was hitting .452 with five home runs and 15 RBI in 15 games. Hill originally suffered the injury April 29 at Florida. The Cubs still have seven players on the DL, including pitchers Rod Beck, Jeremi Gonzalez, Matt Karchner, Kurt Miller and Kerry Wood, outfielder Robin Jennings and catcher Sandy Martinez. The 34-year-old Hill was claimed off waivers from the Seattle Mariners last season and helped the Cubs to the National League wild card by hitting .351 with eight homers and 23 RBI in 48 games. It was the second stint with the Cubs for Hill, who batted .309 with 20 homers and 60 RBI in 120 games in 1993-94. He has also seen major league action with the Mariners, Toronto (1989-91), Cleveland (1991-93) and San Francisco (1995-97). To make room on the roster, the Cubs optioned outfielder Bo Porter to Triple-A Iowa of the Pacific Coast League. Porter, recalled when Hill went on the DL, played in five games and did not have a hit in his only at-bat.
