SPORTSTICKER NL RECAP SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- Chris Holt pitched well enough to get his first win of the season. Russ Ortiz was better. Ortiz allowed an unearned run and three hits over 6 2/3 innings for his fifth straight victory as the San Francisco Giants kept Holt winless with a 3-1 triumph over the the Houston Astros. Ortiz (6-2) allowed an RBI single to Craig Biggio in the third after Tim Bogar reached second with one out on third baseman Bill Mueller's throwing error. He struck out two and walked four. Holt (0-6) became the first six-game loser in the National League, giving up three runs -- two earned -- and six hits over six innings. Trailing by two runs, the Astros had a chance to get Holt off the hook in the seventh as they loaded the bases with two outs on Carl Everett's single and walks to Tony Eusebio and Bogar. But Alan Embree relieved Ortiz and struck out pinch-hitter Russ Johnson to get out of the inning. John Johnstone tossed a scoreless eighth before Robb Nen recorded the final three outs for his league-leading 14th save, one more than John Franco of the New York Mets. The Giants answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, taking a 2-1 lead on Armando Rios' RBI groundout and Jeff Kent's sacrifice fly. San Francisco added an insurance run in the sixth as Rios reached on Bogar's one-out error at shortstop, stole second and scored on J.T. Snow's double.
