JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Today could be sweeps day in the NBA as the Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs look to close out their conference semifinals series. The Pacers and Spurs, who have lost just one game combined in the playoffs, own commanding 3-0 leads and can advance to the conference finals with road wins. No team has ever rallied from an 0-3 deficit. In other playoff action today, the surprising New York Knicks go for their third straight victory against the Atlanta Hawks while the Portland Trail Blazers try to push the two-time defending Western Conference champion Utah Jazz to the brink of elimination. A busy playoff day gets under way at 12:30 p.m. EDT when the Philadelphia 76ers look to stay alive against the red-hot Pacers, who are 6-0 in the playoffs. The Los Angeles Lakers will try to avoid another embarrassing sweep at 5:30 p.m. against the Spurs, who have won six of seven in the postseason and can wrap up their first trip to the Western Conference finals since 1995. The second game of today's quadrupleheader takes place at Madison Square Garden at 3 p.m. as the eighth-seeded Knicks, flying high after two wins in Atlanta, go for a 3-0 lead against the struggling Hawks. The aging Jazz, who lost to the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Finals the last two years, hope to gain a split at Portland tonight at 8 p.m. and square their series at 2-2. Although they struggled at times during an inconsistent regular season, the Pacers appear to be peaking at the right time and need just one victory to advance to the Eastern Conference finals for the second straight year and fourth time in the decade. Indiana can become the first team since the 1993 Chicago Bulls to sweep the first two rounds. Indiana has never swept a best-of-seven series and the Sixers never have been swept. Considered the preseason favorite in the Eastern Conference after taking the Bulls to seven games last year, the Pacers overcame the hostile Philadelphia crowd on Friday. Indiana's postseason experience showed as Reggie Miller scored 29 points in a 97-86 victory over the 76ers, who were worn down by Indiana's deep bench. After struggling just to make the playoffs, the Knicks are only two wins away from their first berth in the Eastern Conference since advancing to the NBA Finals in 1994. The Hawks will have to find a way to slow down Latrell Sprewell, who scored 31 points in each of the Knicks' wins in Atlanta. New York is 4-1 on the road in the postseason but just 1-1 at home, splitting a pair of contests against top seed Miami in the first round. The Knicks are making their first home appearance since losing to the Heat, 87-72, in Game Four, a contest in which they squandered a 51-40 lead in the third quarter. The Lakers and Shaquille O'Neal are in a familiar position after collapsing down the stretch in Saturday's 103-91 loss to the Spurs. San Antonio scored the last 13 points as it again outplayed Los Angeles in the final minutes. The Lakers are on the verge of being swept out of the playoffs for the second straight year after losing four straight to the Jazz in last season's Western Conference finals. Sweeps also are nothing new to O'Neal, whose Orlando's team dropped four straight to Houston in the 1995 finals. The confident Spurs improved to 4-0 on the road in the playoffs and can advance to the conference finals for the fifth time in franchise history with a win today. The Lakers had no answer on Saturday for Tim Duncan, who collected 37 points and 14 rebounds. Fellow "Twin Tower" David Robinson was limited to 24 minutes by foul trouble, but Duncan simply was unstoppable. He was 19-of-23 from the line as he matched the 1999 individual playoff high. The Jazz are facing a must-win for the second straight series after getting routed by the bigger and deeper Trail Blazers, 97-87, on Saturday. Brian Grant again won his duel with Karl Malone, collecting 16 points and 15 rebounds to help the Blazers grab a 2-1 lead in the series. Portland's massive front line of Grant, Rasheed Wallace and Arvydas Sabonis dominated inside against Utah, which missed 13 straight shot at one point of the first half and trailed by as many as 21 in the second quarter before making the final respectable. Utah rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat Sacramento in a best-of-five first round series, but the back-to-back games could be an advantage for the younger Blazers, who have never lost a series when holding a 2-1 edge. The Jazz, who have lost eight of their last 10 games in Portland, will have to rebound from a dismal performance in Game Three to avoid falling into a 3-1 hole heading back to Utah. The Jazz had 12 turnovers against 11 baskets in the first half and showed their frustration with a handful of technical and hard fouls. Malone had 25 points and 14 rebounds, most of them after Utah fell hopelessly behind in the first half.
