AL RECAP KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Jamie Moyer pitched six strong innings to win his third straight start and the Seattle Mariners extended their season-high winning streak to five games with a 5-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Moyer (4-4) limited the Royals to one run and seven hits and struck out four without walking a batter. The crafty lefthander threw 60 of 94 pitches for strikes and improved to 8-7 lifetime against Kansas City. He pitched eight scoreless innings in a 5-1 win over the Royals last Sunday. "Against this team they can beat you with singles, and they can get you with the long ball," Moyer said. "They're probably going to beat you with singles and extra-base hits moreso than the long ball, but there's still a threat for the long ball." "He pitched good," said Kansas City manager Tony Muser. "He's pitched two good games against us. I thought we made better adjustemts but not eniogh, You have to give him some credit." Russ Davis drove in two runs for Seattle, which has not lost since last Saturday's 11-10 setback to the Royals. Davis and Ken Griffey Jr. had doubles for the Mariners, who won for the first time this season without hitting a home run. Griffey left the game with leg cramps in the ninth inning but is expected to play Saturday. Jay Witasick (1-3) gave up three runs and eight hits in five innings as the Royals lost for just the second time in seven games. Rookie Carlos Febles matched a career high with four hits for the Royals. Seattle took a 1-0 lead in the second on consecutive singles by David Segui, Butch Huskey and John Mabry. Jeff King led off the bottom of the second and beat out a bunt. Two outs later, Tim Spehr singled to left field and Febles followed with a single up the middle to tie the game. Moyer escaped further trouble by picking off Febles. "You get a guy on first and second and you get a base hit up the middle, now it's first and third," Moyer said. "Fortunately I was able to pick off Febles and that's big right there with a contact hitter (Rey Sanchez) at the plate and the top of the lineup coming up," Moyer said. Griffey led off the fourth with a walk and stole second before moving to third on Edgar Martinez's infield hit. Huskey delivered a single to left to snap the tie and Martinez was thrown out trying to reach third on the play. Mabry and Davis followed with consecutive singles to score Huskey for a 3-1 lead. Seattle pushed the lead to 4-1 in the sixth when Scott Service walked Mabry and Davis followed with an RBI double into the left-field corner. The Mariners made it 5-1 in the eighth on David Bell's RBI single off Jeff Montgomery. Jose Mesa allowed an RBI single to Carlos Beltran in the ninth but retired Joe Randa on a flyout to end the game with runners on second and third. --=-=--
