POLTEN, Austria, May 20 (UPI) -- Heavy rains forced the suspension of Thursday's quarterfinal action at the International Raiffeisen Grand Prix. Only one match was completed as sixth seed Younes El Aynaoui of Morocco advanced to his first ATP Tour semifinal of the year with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over unseeded Guillermo Canas of Argentina. One other match got under way as defending champion and second seed Marcelo Rios of Chile was leading Austrian wild card Stefan Koubek, 5-3, in the first set. Looking for a morale-boosting tournament win before next week's French Open, top seed Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia will have to win two matches on Friday to advance to the final the next day. His match with Austrian qualifier Markus Hipfl was postponed today, as was the match between fourth seed Francisco Clavet of Spain and fifth seed Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina. Kafelnikov moved into his first quarterfinal in more than three months Wednesday by dispatching Argentina's Franco Squillari, 6-4, 6-1. Hipfl defeated Christian Ruud of Norway, 6-4, 6-2. By reaching the final eight, Kafelnikov matched his best result on clay in more than a year. He was a quarterfinalist at Barcelona in 1998. The top seed at next week's French Open, Kafelnikov has not played in a quarterfinal since losing to Thomas Johansson at the Guardian Direct Cup in London in late February. That loss started a string of seven straight ATP Tour match defeats. --=-=--
