NEW YORK, May 20 (AFP) - The US Tennis Association announced a record purse of 14,503,000 dollars for this year's US Open, the only Grand Slam tennis event with equal payouts for men and women. Singles champions will receive 750,000 dollars with 420,000 dollars to the runner-up. That is a boost of 50,000 dollars for the champions and 20,000 for the losing finalist. Last year's total purse was 14 million dollars. The US Open has featured equal men's and women's prize money since 1973. This year's event runs from August 30 to September 12.
