NEW YORK (AP) -- The return of the Cleveland Browns and the return of instant replay will mark the opening weekend of the NFL 64-game exhibition season, beginning Aug. 7. The Browns, now an expansion team but wearing their old brown, orange and white colors, will mark their return against the Dallas Cowboys Monday night, Aug. 9, in the nationally televised Hall of Fame game at Canton, Ohio. It is the first time the Hall of Fame game to be played on a Monday night. The Browns were the home team for the first Monday night game ever in 1970, beating the New York Jets 31-21. The exhibition season begins with the two-time Super Bowl champions, the Denver Broncos, meeting the San Diego Chargers in the American Bowl at Sydney, Australia, plus Indianapolis at Chicago and Oakland at St. Louis. Denver also will face the Green Bay Packers, their opponents in the 1998 Super Bowl, at Madison, Wis., Aug. 23. Two stadiums will debut this summer. The Browns will open the new 69,000-seat Cleveland Stadium Aug. 21 against the Minnesota Vikings, and on Aug. 27, the Tennessee Titans will debut in their 67,000-seat stadium in Nashville against the Atlanta Falcons. Instant replay will be used in 63 of the exhibition games, the exception being the game in Australia. Overall, 11 exhibition games will be nationally televised, capped by the Aug. 30 game between San Francisco and Oakland -- the first preseason meeting between the Bay Area rivals in six years. -=-=-
