TAMPA, May 21 (UPI) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday re-signed restricted free agent linebacker Don Davis, who joined the team as a waiver claim last November, to a one-year contract. Davis appeared in five games for Tampa Bay last season after being clamined Nov. 25 from the New Orleans Saints. Known for his special teams ability, Davis contributed three kick-coverage tackles and recorded the Buccaneers' only blocked punt of the season against Cincinnati in Week 17. The 26-year-old Davis played in five games for the Saints before being waived, tallying four defensive tackles and one stop on special teams as a reserve. He also spent the 1996 and 1997 seasons in New Orleans, compiling 24 tackles on special teams in 22 games. Davis originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets after starting for three seasons at Kansas. He spent two weeks on the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad in 1995 and opened the 1996 campaign on the Saints' practice squad before being moved to the active roster.
