KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, May 24 (UPI) -- Five people on board a Royal Malaysian air force transport have been killed when the plane crashed while attempting to landing in the east Malaysian state of Sarawak. Witnesses said an explosion was heard as the aircraft went down about this afternoon over a swampy area at the end of the runway of the Kuching International Airport on the Borneo island. An air force spokesman said personnel from the RMAF base stationed at the Kuching airport rushed to scene to put out the blaze from the aircraft. The transport was one of the oldest planes in the RMAF fleet and had entered service in 1966 after four of the aircraft were donated by the Canadian government. RMAF public relation officer Major Ramli Abdul Rahim said the aircraft was on a training exercise. He said all five people on board were killed and their names would be released after relatives were notified.
