HONG KONG, May 21 (AFP) - A man was shot dead in a video games parlor Friday in latest gang-linked attack in the Portuguese gambling enclave ahead of its return to Chinese rule in December. The man, in his 30s, was shot in the head as he played video games, local television said, adding that the victim was said to be active in the casino industry. He was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital. There have been more than 20 reported gang-linked attacks in Macau this year, with nine people killed and more than 15 others injured. Macau has been rocked by gangland crime as rival triad groups compete for domination of gambling and prostitution rackets. The violence has reportedly prompted members of the Macau preparatory committee, entrusted to set up Macau's post-handover government, to ask Beijing to allow Chinese troops to be empowered to enforce law and order after the December 20 handover. China, which is drafting a garrison law governing its troops in Macau, planned to station under 1,000 troops in Macau following the handover. Edmund Ho, who has been confirmed as the territory's first post-handover leader, has said he will make fighting crime a priority.
