ADELAIDE, Australia, May 23 (AFP) - Police who found the remains of up to six adults dumped in acid baths in the vault of a vacant bank Sunday discovered plastic bags containing more body parts at an Adelaide house. Commanding officer Detective Superintendent Paul Schramm said there was at least one body in the bags and possibly two or more. On Friday up to six badly decomposed bodies were found in the bank vault at Snowtown, a small town north of Adelaide. Police said it appeared they had been killed at a nearby property. The ABC and Nine television networks said the vault death toll could be as high as 12. The discovery followed a year-long probe into a number of missing people. Three of the bodies are suspected to be those of transvestite and convicted paedophile Barry Lane, 40, his friend Clinton Trezise, 22, and mother-of-eight Elizabeth Haydon. The bodies were found in an old State Bank building in Snowtown's main street which closed around two and a half years ago. Since then it had been rented by a woman who sold plants and crafts. Police are unclear on the motive. There have been suggestions that child abusers were being targeted although detectives said the people may be victims of fraud. Social-security benefits belonging to several of the missing people were still being collected. Three Adelaide men have been charged with murdering a person unknown. Robert Wagner, 27, John Bunting, 32, and Mark Haydon, 40, have been remanded in custody to reappear on July 2. The discovery of the bodies has sparked memories of some of South Australia's most horrific murder cases and shocked the town of 500 people. In 1976 and 1977 seven women were raped and killed in what became known as the Truro murders. It was one of Australia's worst mass-murder cases with the victims, aged between 15 and 26, found buried in bushland near Truro, north of Adelaide, a year later. James Miller was jailed for life for the murders in 1980. Between 1979 and 1983, five young men were killed in the state in horrific circumstances. One victim was dismembered into 43 pieces and dumped in Adelaide's Port River. Police believe a homosexual gang dubbed "The Family" was responsible.
