BEIJING, May 23 (AFP) - China is to set up a fund in memory of the three journalists killed in NATO's bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade, official media said Sunday. "The China Charity Federation, the country's largest charitable organization, has decided to establish a permanent fund to commemorate the three Chinese journalists killed by the US-led NATO attack on the Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia on May 7," Xinhua news agency reported. The fund, entitled "Memorial Fund Dedicated to Shao Yunhuan, Xu Xinghu and Zhu Ying", was suggested by Chinese people and 'foreign friends' alike, the agency said. NATO fired three missiles at the embassy on May 7, killing Shao, a Xinhua reporter, and husband-and-wife team Xu and Zhu from the Beijing-based Guangming Daily newspaper. Twenty other people were injured in the attack. "Funds donated by individuals and work units from at home and abroad will be used to help the relatives of the victims, the development of social undertakings in their home towns, and to award excellent journalists," Xinhua said. US President Bill Clinton has apologised to China for the bombing, which sparked massive demonstrations across the country, and promised to investigate what he described as a tragic mistake. China's Communist leadership attended a national day of mourning for the three when their ashes returned home from Yugoslavia, and has pronounced them "Revolutionary Martyrs." On Thursday Beijing hinted at growing impatience with the United States over the speed of the investigation.
