CHICAGO (AP) -- Grain and soybean futures prices retreated early today on the Chicago Board of Trade. Corn, soybeans and spring wheat were pressured by expectations for favorable planting weather this week across most of the Midwest. Market participants were expecting the U.S. Agriculture Department's weekly update, to be released at the end of the day, to show planting remains ahead of the normal five-year pace. Most investors also were viewing heavy rainfall over the weekend as beneficial to the newly planted crops. Wheat futures faced additional pressure ahead of active harvesting in the winter wheat states. Wheat for July delivery fell 2 cents to $2.50 1/4 a bushel; July corn fell 3 1/2 cents to $2.15 a bushel; July oats fell 2 1/4 cents to $1.18 a bushel; July soybeans fell 5 3/4 cents to $4.56 a bushel. Meat and livestock futures were mostly lower on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. June live cattle fell .12 cent to 63.40 cents a pound; August feeder cattle fell .05 cent to 74.97 cents a pound; June lean hogs fell .75 cent to 56.15 cents a pound; July pork bellies fell .30 cent to 53.30 cents a pound. -=-=-
