NEW YORK, May 24 (AFP) - The US dollar was lower against the yen at the close of trading here, after a day of unusually slow trading with most European exchanges closed for the Whit Monday holiday. Around 2130 GMT, the dollar traded at 123.1 yen, against 123.8 yen earlier and 124.03 yen Friday. The euro was at 1.0596 dollars, against 1.0565 dollars earlier and 1.0576 Friday. Traders attributed the dollar's slip against the yen to profit-taking after its recent rise, an effect amplified by light trading during the holiday. The dollar dropped in 1.5105 Swiss francs, compared to 1.5164 Friday. The pound sterling traded at 1.5977 dollars, against 1.6008 dollars last week, after a report showed Britain's economy grew more slowly than expected during the first quarter.
