BONN, May 21 (AFP) - Senior representatives of the G8 countries ended a meeting on Kosovo on Friday with some progress but no breakthrough and will report to their foreign ministers on the next step in tackling the peace process, diplomats said. German representative Gunter Pleuger said that after four hours of talks in Bonn, the political directors of the Group of Seven leading industrial countries and Russia had made "some small positive steps, which I am satisfied with." There were "still fundamental problems with the peacekeeping force and the sequencing of various measures." But the meeting had "achieved what we could achieve today. I said before the meeting there was no great breakthough to be expected. You cannot solve these large problems in four hours." The negotiators from Britain, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States had "really gone as far as they could," said Pleuger, adding that on some issues there was "no leeway." He said the political directors, who are also to spend the weekend in Bonn discussing preparations for June's G8 and EU summit in Cologne, would have to report to their foreign ministers about the next steps to be taken.
