We are researchers at Princeton University and Carnegie Mellon University conducting a research study on commercial facial analysis algorithms.
Our study will evaluate how well these algorithms work. We will be analyzing commercial facial analysis algorithms that can be used to limit access to online services and content based on age.
We are seeking study participants aged 13+ who can come to CyLab for a study session in spring or summer of 2026. Participation will involve having the research team take images/videos of your face in different scenarios and completing a short survey.
All data, including the images/videos, will be kept anonymous and will be deleted at the conclusion of the study. Minor study participants will need parental permission to participate, and parents are welcome to accompany their child to the study session.
The study will take place at CyLab in the Robert Mehrabian Collaborative Innovation Center (CIC), in spring or summer of 2026. Each study session will last up to 60 minutes or to 90 minutes, at the participant's discretion.
Participants will receive an Amazon gift card for participating in this study, with $30 in value for a 60-minute study session and $45 in value for a 90-minute session.
To indicate your interest in participating, please fill out this form, or click the 'Join our study!' tab. For questions, please contact facial-analysis-study@cmu.edu.
Please note: completing this interest form does not constitute consent to participate. If you are selected for the study, there will be an informed consent process.
